Our School

Since Columbine High School opened in 1973, we have established strongStudent donating Blood
traditions and a culture of Rebel Pride. This pride is rooted in the fact that we are a close-knit family and community of learners. We are committed to high standards of learning for all students, valuing each and every member of our school community. We expect personal and collective responsibility and promote high levels of engagement and performance in learning, which results in future life success.

• 2017 ranking among best high schools in the state according to Niche.com (overall grade of A-)
• A caring, committed, and highly-qualified faculty; overall student to licensed staff ratio of 17:1
• Make Your Voices Heard Survey student data consistently outperforms district average
Science Classroom• 3 2016 Boettcher Scholarship semi-finalists with a 2016 graduate earning the scholarship
• 2 Daniels Fund Scholarship recipients (2015 and 2016)
• 2 National merit scholarship semi-finalists (2015)
• 32 students scored a 30 or better on 2016 Colorado ACT (including 1 perfect score of 36)
• Total of 1,227 AP exams taken (2015 & 2016)% of Total AP students with scores 3+ = 69%; exceeds the state percentage (62%) and global (61%)Includes 60 AP Scholars, 29 with Distinction, and 3 National AP Scholars (2016)
• Birthplace of Big Idea Project - Students identify a need in society they would like to do something about, work together with a business mentor to design their action plan and then make their Big Idea come to life (www.bigideaproject.org)
• DECA – Numerous state qualifiers and 2 National Team qualifiers (2016)
• Award winning Drama Program – including the World Premiere Fall Play inDebate team 2015 - Nooses Off
• Speech/Debate – Numerous state qualifiers; named in the top 25% of speech and debate clubs in the country (National Speech and Debate Association)
• Currently 23 CHSAA sanctioned 5A sports with 14 state championships
• 2nd year of Lockheed Martin tutoring partnership
Princesses at Trick or Treat Street
• Annual East High School student exchange
• Annual Trick-or-Treat Street event that provides a safe and fun Halloween for over 1,000 kids
• Annual Coffee Jam fundraiser sponsored by Unity in Action club has generated $5,000 in proceeds donated to school/orphanage in Tanzania, Africa
• First high school in the nation to host Blind Café event last May 2016
• Top-rated high school partnership with Bonfils Blood Drive in the nation
• Since 2013, we’ve helped fund raise more than $25,000 dollars to charities such as:
Columbine Memorial
Iluvuguys foundation (aka “Emily’s Parade”)
American Cancer Society (aka Relay for Life)
• Spirit squads (Cheers and Poms) offer annual community pee wee clinics
• Meals on Wheels volunteer support and nursing/retirement home visits
• Feeder school tutoring and mentoring relationships in community
• 2016 Jefferson County 5A Athletic Director of the Year (Mr. Scott Christy)Cross Country Team
• 2016 teacher and student HERO Award winners (Mr. Bryan Halsey and Ms. Annalise Kendrick)
• New peer mentoring program (Rebels Mentoring Rebels)
