It is an honor, privilege, and commitment to be a High School Leader for Outdoor Lab. Students who are Juniors and Seniors in good standing have the unique opportunity to serve as a High School Leader. While at the week-long program, High School Leaders help 6th graders learn about science, history, and mountain ecosystems, among other things. For the leaders themselves, they learn skills in communication, critical thinking/problem solving, self-direction, personal responsibility, leadership and stewardship. To many of the 6th grade students at Outdoor Lab, the most important person is the High School Leader, as they serve as guides, teachers, friends, advisers, and a source of inspiration. In order to fulfill these expectations, the High School Leader must be emotionally mature, use good judgement, and demonstrate a natural love and respect for children and the environment.

In order to participate, you must meet the minimum following qualifications:

1. 2.0 GPA or higher

2. No attendance concerns

3. No behavioral concerns

4. Ability to develop a plan to make up work with your teachers

2021-2022 COVID-19 Update:

Outdoor Lab is planning to operate at full capacity for our residential/overnight program beginning in the Fall of 2021. Updates and changes will be communicated when necessary based on current public health orders.

Outdoor Lab is operating under the guidance and approval from Jefferson County Public Health and District Health Services and will communicate current COVID plans/protocol to each group. Plans are subject to change and will be communicated as soon as information is available. Safety of our students/staff will always be a priority.

If you’d like to take advantage of this opportunity, use the QR code or link below to complete the Outdoor Lab Interest Form. Selections are made based on the above criteria, applying on time/early, seniority, prior experience with Outdoor Lab and then random selection. Typically, there are more qualified applicants than we have spaces for. If you have any questions about your status, please contact Mrs. Loonie in the Counseling Office.
